Role Overview
Seeking a highly skilled Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) specializing in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) procedures for a temporary contract assignment in Midland, MI (January 2027 start). The technologist will prepare equipment, maintain the sterile field, anticipate surgeon needs during complex open-heart and CVOR cases, and assist in maintaining accurate counts of instruments, sponges, sharps, and medications.
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope:
- Surgical Instrumentation & Setup: Verify surgeon preference cards; assemble, inspect, and arrange sterile instruments and equipment in a timely manner prior to procedures.
- Sterile Field Management: Maintain, monitor, and enforce strict sterile processing techniques, recognizing and correcting any breaks in sterility immediately.
- Intraoperative Assistance: Anticipate surgical team requirements during cardiovascular and general operating room procedures; manage counts of instruments, sponges, sharps, and medications according to health system policy.
- Equipment Maintenance & Charging: Operate, clean, assemble, and sterilize surgical equipment and disposables; account for supplies to support accurate patient billing.
- Departmental Flexibility: Float to the General OR as needed during low case volumes, room turnovers, breaks, or to assist with opening rooms.

Schedule & On-Call Structure:
- Shift Schedule: Variable Day Shift | 4 x 10-hour shifts (40 hours/week guaranteed).
- Weekend Requirements: Every third weekend rotation.
- On-Call Requirements: 1 to 2 call nights per week plus every third weekend.
