Role Overview
Seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) for a temporary contract assignment in Mt. Pleasant, MI. The MLS will conduct medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses across multiple laboratory disciplines (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, and Microbiology) to assist in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in compliance with accreditation guidelines and QA/QI standards.
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope:
- Diagnostic Testing & Analysis: Perform chemical analyses on blood, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids; perform cell counts and differential identifications using microscopic techniques.
- Immunohematology & Transfusion: Conduct blood grouping, typing, and crossmatching to prepare blood products, plasma, and platelets for transfusions.
- Microbiology: Process, read, and report cultures from diverse specimen sources, including antibiotic sensitivity testing.
- Instrumentation & Quality Control: Calibrate, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and evaluate laboratory analyzers and equipment; ensure strict adherence to quality assurance and infection control protocols.
- Operations & Inventory: Monitor and maintain supply inventories, answer technical queries, compile laboratory reporting, and assist with orienting/training new staff.
Qualifications & Candidate Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 1+ year of active Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience [REQUIRED]. Prior travel contract experience [PREFERRED].
- Board Certification: Active ASCP certification (MLS/MT) [REQUIRED].
- Life Support: Active BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) [REQUIRED].
Schedule & On-Call Structure:
- Shift Schedule: Afternoon Shift | 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM (8 hours/day, 40 hours/week guaranteed).
- Weekend & Holiday Requirements: Rotating weekends and holidays required.
